On Rain in Durango
if these are news to you, i'm sorry to be the messanger. there is a state, in the country of mexico, near the north and next to the other mexican state of sinaloa, called durango. i was born and raised there. if you seen a western, it's likely that you have seen it as the set of an american wester film.
after entering the desert like setting with mountians in the background, lefts further zoom into the mountians in the background. in those mountians, i grew up amoungst other people who based on site-specific names and brief basque to mexico migration in the 16th century as part of spain's colonial project settled there.
those basque settlers occupied the land of the acaxees, xiximes y tepehuanes (DelGadillo Galiado 2021-will finish citing later). well they were caregivers -land-managers- of the space. then, colonial amenesia by the mexican state and the catholic church, i'm just learning the indigenous and ecological history of durango.
well durango, the space where i grew up, and i'm learning about via peer-review articles accessed via ucla library, is in a multi-year drought.
